That might come as a surprise if you live outside of countries where Yandex is popular like Russia, Turkey, and Belarus as the vast majority of Yandex’s users are concentrated in these regions.

2. Yandex has a global search engine market share of 2.78%

Despite being the third most popular search engine, Yandex’s global market share is still relatively small at just 2.78%. That’s a long way off Google (89.34%), but not far behind second place, Bing (4.16%).

3. Yandex handles 63% of all search traffic in Russia

According to internal reports from Yandex, Yandex had a 63.4% share of the Russian search market in 2023. That’s up from 61.9% in 2022.

This makes sense given that Russia is Yandex’s ‘home turf’, as it were. However, the company also operates in other nearby countries including Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.

4. 93% of Yandex.ru traffic comes from users in Russia

Yandex offers different web portals with different top-level domains. The .ru portal is the local Russian version of the search engine, so it makes sense that the vast majority of traffic to Yandex.ru comes from users in Russia (93%). That’s as of March 2024.

5. 10.92% of Yandex.com traffic comes from users in the US

The .com version of Yandex is its international web portal. Unlike Yandex.ru, which is designed for Russian speakers, Yandex.com is written in the English language and caters to international users.

With 1.74 billion visits per month as of August last year, Yandex.ru ranks as the second most visited website in Russia.

7. Yandex is the second most popular online resource in Russia

WhatsApp tops the chart with 72.6 million users per day, on average. Yandex comes a close second place with an average daily audience of around 64 million.

Chrome is the leader, with a 53% market share in Russia. Yandex Browser ranks second with around 18% of the market share, and Safari comes third at 13%.
